Hello! My name is Tom Uijlenhoet and I would like to welcome you to my portfolio website. I am 20 years old and a third year Industrial Design student at Eindhoven University of Technology. Profesional Identity
Providing visual communication
Skilled in sketching, 3D modeling, low fidelity prototyping, photography and videography, I possess the ability to adeptly convey ideas and concepts to team members or stakeholders. This ensures transparent and joint decision-making at every stage of the design process.
Technology & realization
From 3D printing to woodworking to soldering electrical components, for me as a designer, it is really important to be able to transform concepts and ideas from sketches into tangible prototypes. Therefore, I try to possess a wide range of manufacturing techniques to create feasible and visually appealing products.
User-centered designing
Central to my design vision is a commitment to prioritizing the needs and preferences of end-users. By involving the user in the design process, I want to ensure that the designs I create are intuitive, ergonomic and can therefore seamlessly integrate into the users' lives.
Teamwork & collaboration
For me, teamwork is key in a design process. Input from multiple perspectives and ideating work best with people with different expertise and backgrounds. This creates the most innovative design solutions and allows the design to go from concept to reality.
My vision on design
As a designer, I firmly believe that design should serve a purpose beyond itself. It should strive to enhance the world in some way. While not every design may cause monumental change, I am dedicated to incorporating aspects into my creations that contribute positively to individuals' lives or society in general.
For this, I believe that a design should have an intuitive interaction and an aesthetically pleasing appearance, which for me entails simplicity, sleekness and proportion balance. In today’s world with improving technology and abstraction of information for use, the interaction between user and design function gets more and more indirect.
Since I am committed to create designs that seamlessly integrate into the users' lives, I believe that the balance between function, form and interaction of the design is crucial to the intuitiveness of the design and therefore the integration into the user's lives.
